Criminal charges from Brampton and Mississauga are heard at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse, 7755 Hurontario Street, Brampton, the only criminal courthouse in Peel Region on the province's court list. Most early dates there are remote: case management court runs by Zoom or phone. The Superior Court of Justice sits in the same building for its trials, bail hearings and reviews.

This page covers the criminal side of the courthouse. For how a criminal defence case in Ontario unfolds, start with our practice areas.

Why do Mississauga and Brampton charges end up at 7755 Hurontario Street?

Peel Region's police service covers both cities, and the province's court directory lists no courthouse in Mississauga at all. Peel Regional Police's own court information page lists the Grenville and William Davis Court House as its Ontario Court of Justice location, alongside the two city traffic courts. A second address, 7765 Hurontario Street, is listed for the Crown Attorney's office, the Victim/Witness Assistance Program and Small Claims Court.

Our page on criminal cases in Brampton covers the police divisions that lay charges in that city. For charges laid in Mississauga, see our page on criminal cases in Mississauga.

How does a case move through 7755 Hurontario Street, step by step?

The Ontario Court of Justice's practice directions apply across the province, so a Brampton case follows the same stages as a Toronto one. What is local is the courtroom and the fact that most early dates are by phone or video.

The first appearance is short: the court checks for a lawyer and disclosure, then sets the next date. Our guide to what happens at a first court appearance applies here too, apart from the Toronto addresses. Our page on disclosure in an Ontario criminal case explains what the Crown sends and why early dates are often adjourned.

If a judge's input is needed, the lawyers book a judicial pre-trial; see what happens at a judicial pre-trial. Some charges can end through a diversion program under the Crown's province-wide policy on community justice programs (D. 4), and our page on how diversion works explains who may qualify.

On most indictable charges you choose your court (Criminal Code s. 536(2)), and in Peel all three choices sit at the same address. Read about the election between a judge and a jury before that date. Our page on withdrawals, peace bonds, discharges and convictions compares where a case can end. If there is a sentencing, a probation officer may prepare a report for the judge (s. 721), as our page on pre-sentence reports explains.

When is the courthouse open, and who do you call?

Court offices are open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with counter service from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. French-language services are available by phone and at the counter.

Do you have to go to the courthouse for case management?

Usually not. Peel Regional Police's court information page tells accused people with remote case management dates not to come to the courthouse, and to join over the internet or by phone at 1-855-703-8985 with the meeting ID and passcode for their courtroom; the court's page also lists a local number, 647-374-4685. Expect to wait on hold or in a video waiting room while the court deals with other cases. Under the Ontario Court of Justice's practice direction, a guilty plea, a sentencing and a trial are in person unless the court allows otherwise.

In the self-represented courtroom, lawyers and duty counsel are heard first at 9:00 a.m., and people without a lawyer are called from 10:00 a.m., with further blocks after the morning break and from 2:15 p.m. On Thursdays, self-represented federal first appearances are split by last name: A to M at 10:15 a.m. and N to Z at 11:45 a.m. Peel Regional Police's page gives its own call-in times by last name and different courtroom numbers; the court's own page wins if the two differ. Our guide to whether your lawyer can appear in court for you explains how a designation of counsel can save you the call altogether.

What if you do not have a lawyer yet?

Peel Regional Police set out an order of steps. First, ask for your disclosure and the Crown Screening Form: for a Criminal Code or youth charge, email [email protected]; for a drug charge or another federal offence, email the federal prosecutor. If you have no photo identification or no secure personal email, call the Crown's office at 905-456-4777 to arrange another way.

Then contact Legal Aid Ontario at 1-800-668-8258, for general advice, a legal aid certificate, or a message for local duty counsel with your name and phone number. Duty counsel cannot guarantee same-day help, so call well before the court date. Legal Aid says its central line offers help in over 300 languages.

How do you get a Farsi interpreter in Brampton?

Court proceedings in Ontario are in English or French. Section 14 of the Charter gives an accused or witness who does not understand the language of the proceedings the right to an interpreter, and the Ministry of the Attorney General provides interpretation in any language required in criminal matters. Your lawyer may ask for one at the first appearance; if no one does, tell the judge or your lawyer on the record the first time you go to court.

Ontario tells counsel to give as much notice as possible and to phone the court office's interpreter coordinator or designated staff; in Brampton, the courthouse line is 905-456-4700. A surety who needs an interpreter can ask counsel to request one. Our guide for Persian-speaking people charged in the GTA explains how we work with clients and families in Farsi.

What does the Superior Court handle in Brampton?

The Superior Court of Justice uses the same address and books its criminal work through one trial office: trials, judicial pre-trials, bail hearings and reviews, 90-day detention reviews, criminal applications and motions, and assignment court. A case reaches it after an election for a trial by a judge alone or a judge and jury, or when a detention order is reviewed.

A bail review needs at least two clear days' written notice to the Crown unless it agrees otherwise (s. 520(2)), and someone detained for 90 days without a trial is entitled to a review hearing (s. 525). Our page on bail hearings in Ontario explains the first hearing. If a relative is asked to supervise someone on release, read what a surety agrees to in Ontario first.

Where do Peel traffic tickets go?

Not to 7755 Hurontario Street. Provincial offences such as Highway Traffic Act tickets go to the city courts: Brampton's at 5 Ray Lawson Boulevard, 2nd floor, L6Y 5L7, and Mississauga's at 950 Burnhamthorpe Road West, L5C 3B4 (905-615-4500), both open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A Criminal Code impaired driving charge stays in the criminal court at 7755 Hurontario Street, as our impaired driving defence page explains.

What changes the answer?

  • Whether you have a lawyer. Retained counsel matters go to courtroom 307; self-represented matters to 104. Counsel retained by the first appearance, or within four weeks of it, brings the 12-week adjournment (OCJ practice direction).
  • Who prosecutes. Drug charges and other federal offences are prosecuted by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, with first appearances in courtroom 204 on Thursdays.
  • Age. Youth case management is in courtroom 204 on Tuesdays, with youth diversion on Friday mornings.
  • Custody. People held in custody appear by audio or video remand in courtroom 108, and in-custody cases get scheduling priority for trial dates.
  • When the charge was sworn. For charges sworn on or after June 1, 2026, out-of-custody adult cases have no more than three appearances in case management court unless a judicial officer orders otherwise (Jordan-compliant scheduling direction, Part III).
  • An impaired driving charge. If the accused may join Stream A or D of the Ministry of Transportation's Reduced Suspension with Ignition Interlock Conduct Review Program, counsel can ask to move the case directly into a resolution court to meet the program's 90-day deadline.

For example: a federal drug charge from Mississauga

This is a hypothetical, not a real client or a result. Suppose a permanent resident in Mississauga, more at ease in Farsi than English, is charged by Peel Regional Police with possession of a controlled substance and released with a first appearance in Brampton. Because it is a federal charge, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada prosecutes it, and the first appearance falls in courtroom 204 on a Thursday.

She retains a lawyer before that date. The lawyer requests disclosure from the federal prosecutor, files a designation and appears by Zoom, so she does not call in. The case is adjourned about 12 weeks while the lawyer reviews the evidence with her in Farsi. Before any discussion of a plea, the lawyer weighs how each possible outcome would affect her immigration status.

What mistakes do people make at the Brampton courthouse?

  1. Driving to the courthouse for a remote date. For remote case management, Peel police say not to attend in person.
  2. Calling duty counsel before asking for disclosure. Peel police advise getting the disclosure and Screening Form first.
  3. Emailing the wrong prosecutor. Drug and other federal charges go to the federal prosecutor, not the provincial Crown.
  4. Hanging up while on hold. Waiting is normal on remote lists; stay connected until your name is called.
  5. Missing a date. A missed date can lead to a warrant; see what happens after a missed court date.

What can you do this week?

  1. Read the release paper for the date, the courtroom and every condition, and follow the conditions until a court changes them.
  2. Note the meeting ID and passcode for your courtroom and the dial-in number.
  3. Speak with a lawyer early, so counsel is on record by the first appearance or within four weeks of it.
  4. Without a lawyer, request your disclosure and Screening Form, then call Legal Aid Ontario.
  5. Tell your lawyer if you or a surety needs a Farsi interpreter.
  6. Gather what you need with our first-week checklist after a criminal charge.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a criminal court in Mississauga?

Not on the province's court directory. Mississauga's courthouse at 950 Burnhamthorpe Road West is the city's provincial offences court for tickets; criminal charges go to Brampton.

Who do I email for disclosure on a drug charge?

The federal prosecutor, at [email protected]. Peel police list that address for Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges and other federal offences; Criminal Code and youth charges go to the provincial Crown.

Can I join case management by phone only?

Yes. The accused may join by video or by phone unless a judicial officer orders otherwise, using 1-855-703-8985 or the local number, with the meeting ID and passcode.

Does the 12-week adjournment apply in Brampton?

Yes. It has applied province-wide since June 2, 2025, for out-of-custody adults with a lawyer retained by the first appearance or within four weeks of it.

I am a permanent resident. What should I know before a plea?

A conviction can make a permanent resident inadmissible under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (s. 36). Read what a criminal charge means for a permanent resident before deciding anything.

My charge was laid in Toronto, not Peel. Where do I go?

Adult first appearances for Toronto charges are at 10 Armoury Street. Our guide to the courthouse at 10 Armoury Street covers that building.

Getting help

Gambriani Law PC lists the Brampton courthouse among the courts we appear in most often, and works in English and Farsi from our office at Suite 1901, 5000 Yonge Street in North York. Most early Brampton dates are remote, so the first steps can usually be handled without travelling to Brampton.

This page is general information about the Brampton courthouse, not legal advice about your case. Court schedules change: check the court's own page before your date.
